Retirement comments

April 8, 2019

Conclusion: After concluding 35 years in wealth management and estate planning I am no longer placing business. Have not for the past 3-4 years

I thought I might offer my observations on my 35 years. The good and the bad. And there was plenty of the latter in this business

My decision: I am leaving it all behind me

Result: Clearing my mind

Knowing all my clients and their next generation have been well served.

I may use this blog for something else

And maybe not

THEN AND NOW

Now retired after decades of wealth management and estate planning I am left wondering if I should comment on my observations and experiences

Or would I be talking to myself?

I am an adherent on Twitter but dismiss Facebook and LinkedIn

A good sales agent⁉️

November 30, 2017

What is the difference between a real estate agent who:,

Is Paid top 5% commission

Is told to get to work earning that top 5% commission

Took four and a half years to get a buyer for our home

Stated that she would get the price for our home that she calculated

Who failed to come in with her promised price

Who came in with offers substantially below replacement value

Compared that uto a thoughtful client oriented wealth management advisor

The difference is

The real estate agent is a one off short term part of a home owners life. After the sale  they are gone   It does not matter to them

Your wealth management advisor has been associating with you for decades    They do not go away

That provides more value for you.  Often they are part of your family

Inclusion or exclusion ⁉️ Feelings ?

November 14, 2017

“Who remembers a time when you weren’t included, and it hurt?” is the question I asked to start a recent workplace inclusion exercise. Looking around the room, I see all hands raised, and I also see in each face a twinge of remembered sadness or pain. Sometimes the hurt is from childhood. Many experienced the […]

Decisions determine destiny. Agreed?

November 14, 2017

Decisions decisions decisions. In this life, we’re faced with so many decisions on a daily basis. Our ultimate rewards are typically based off the efforts we’ve put in to receive them. From a young age, I’ve always been told that “decides determine destiny…” Isn’t it interesting how the things we do today can either greatly […]

Helpful words

November 14, 2017

Should I ride my scooter to work today, or take the bus? Some decisions are easy to make and clearly, this guy didn’t choose wisely! But other decisions are a little more complex. COMMON SENSE OR INTELLIGENCE?

November 10, 2017

We often encounter these 2 terms, but most of us misinterpret their actual meanings. Common sense does not require thought process. It allows you to act without much thought. On the other hand, Intelligence is about thinking effectively in complex situations. All the time, you make many simple and many complex decisions. You can choose […]

Qualified Executor

November 10, 2017

NAMING AN EXECUTOR IS A SERIOUS ACT

For the younger it is not much of a problem.  They have relatives, friends and a circle of other associates.  Having said that,  the Executor should have an interest in the needed responsibilities and, preferably, show some competence.  The chances of needing an Executor at the younger ages is not a likely event

For the elderly it is the other side of the coin.

  1. They have a limited choice of qualified persons
  2. The Executor chosen may die before they die
  3. The responsibilities of the Executor are now very serious.  A prospective candidate may decide that they do not want the job
  4. There are a limited number of possible executors a generation younger than the person putting into place their WILL Planning.
  5. The elderly will likely not have the motivation to put their plans in place.

WARNING: Do not select a family member without a number of qualifications and checks and balances.  The results could be serious
